Hi, I’m Angela Kolls!
I’m a Certified Medical Reiki Master (CRMT), Reiki teacher, and founder of Waves of Zen Healing Arts in Durham, North Carolina. My practice is centered around creating meaningful spaces for healing, self-discovery, and connection.
By blending Reiki, intuitive insight, research awareness, and compassionate conversation, my goal is to help people explore wellness, consciousness, and extraordinary human experiences in a grounded and supportive way. Whether I’m working with clients, teaching students, or helping facilitate conversations within the integrative wellness community, my goal is always to create a welcoming and supportive space for learning, self-discovery, and growth.
My path to Reiki...
has been shaped by both academic study and first-hand experiences. I earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of California, Irvine, where I became fascinated by the many ways cultures around the world discuss healing and consciousness. That interest led me to life-long interest in parapsychology, the scientific study of extraordinary human experiences. However, it was through my own healing journey and spiritually transformative experiences that I discovered Reiki. What I first approached as merely a relaxation technique to deal with stress and burnout, I discovered was something so much amazing: a practice that beautifully blends compassion, mindfulness, and energetic healing!
My Reiki training..
Over the years, I’ve trained in a variety of Reiki traditions and approaches in addition to Medical Reiki, including Usui/Tibetan Holy Fire® III World Peace® Reiki, Karuna® Reiki, Healthcare Reiki, ICRT Animal Reiki, ReikiScience™, Shamanic Reiki, and Kid Reiki. Because I’ve studied both Eastern and Western Reiki lineages, I enjoy weaving together different perspectives and techniques to create personalized experiences for my clients and students.
Highlighting Reiki Research...
In addition to my Reiki practice and teaching, I’m passionate about supporting education, research awareness, and professional dialogue within Reiki, integrative wellness, and parapsychology communities. I serve as Research Curator and Board Member for the Center for Reiki Research, where I help promote access to Reiki research and encourage informed conversations about Reiki’s role in healthcare and wellness.
I also lead the online group Reiki in Clinical Settings (RCS) and founded its Journal Club, where Reiki practitioners, healthcare professionals, and curious learners come together to explore peer-reviewed Reiki research, discuss its applications in clinical environments, and build professional connections.
And Parapsychology Training...
My deep interest in parapsychology, and passion for research and education, eventually led me to the Rhine Research Center, the oldest continuing running parapsychology lab in the US. I now work there as the office manager and Events Coordinator. #dreamjob—literally! But my involvement with the Rhine began several years prior to that, when I began taking parapsychology classes through the Rhine Education Center. This gave me a unique insight into not only into my own experiences, and how some were similar to what people have researched in the lab and field for over a 100 years(!). It also provided me with tools and language that I could share with my Reiki clients to help them understand their own extraordinary experiences in a supportive environment.
Since I beginning my parapsychology education at the Rhine, I’ve completed their the Investigating the Paranormal: A Scientific Perspective Certificate program and am currently pursuing certification in Scientific Approach to Parapsychology and Field Investigations: Professional Certificate.

I believe many experiences people consider unusual or unexplained are actually far more common and shared than we often realize, and that they deserve thoughtful, grounded, and compassionate discussion.
Through my work with Waves of Zen Healing Arts, community education initiatives, and research outreach, I hope to help bridge the gap between personal experience, scientific inquiry, and holistic healing—creating space for meaningful conversations, deeper understanding, and personal empowerment.
