FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions...

What does Reiki feel like?

Everyone’s Reiki experience is unique. Some people feel warmth, tingling, waves of energy, emotional release, or a deep sense of peace and relaxation. Others describe it as feeling like a comforting warm hug or a restful meditative state. Some people don’t notice much physically during the session but still report feeling lighter, calmer, and more balanced afterward. And yes—many people become so relaxed that they fall asleep during their session!

Will Reiki still work if I fall asleep?

Absolutely! Falling asleep during Reiki is very common. Reiki does not require concentration or effort on your part, and the energy will still flow where it’s needed most. In fact, many people find they receive Reiki more deeply when they are fully relaxed.

What will my Reiki session be like?

Before your session begins, your practitioner will take a few moments to talk with you about your goals, answer any questions, and explain what to expect so you can feel comfortable and at ease.

-For In-Person Sessions:
You will remain fully clothed during your session, though you may be invited to remove your shoes if you’re comfortable doing so. Most clients relax on a massage table, but you may also sit in a chair if preferred. Depending on your comfort level, the practitioner may gently place their hands lightly on or slightly above the body, often near the body’s energy centers. Soft music, calming aromas, and a peaceful environment may be used to help you relax.

-For Distance Sessions:
Distance Reiki sessions are typically conducted by phone or Zoom. Because Reiki works with energy, it can also be shared across distance. During the session, you’ll simply relax in a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Many people report feeling the same calming sensations during a distance session as they do during an in-person treatment.

What if I have questions during my session?

You are always welcome (and encouraged!) to ask questions anytime before, during, or after your session.

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

Not at all. Many people simply experience Reiki as a calming and restorative relaxation practice.  Clients from many different backgrounds and belief systems receive Reiki sessions.

Is Reiki connected to a religion?

No. Reiki is not a religion and does not require any particular spiritual belief system. It is a wellness practice rooted in Japanese healing traditions.

Do I need experience with meditation or energy work to benefit from Reiki?

Not at all. You do not need to know how to meditate, be spiritually minded, or have any prior experience with Reiki or energy work. Reiki is designed to be accessible and supportive for everyone. Many people simply experience sessions as a calming opportunity to relax, rest, and reconnect with themselves.

Is Reiki like massage?

Reiki and massage therapy both promote relaxation and wellness, but they are different practices. Massage works primarily with the muscles and soft tissues of the body using physical manipulation and pressure. Reiki is a gentle energy-based practice that typically involves light touch or hands held just above the body. Unlike massage, there is no muscle manipulation, and clients remain fully clothed during the session. Many people find Reiki deeply calming and enjoy it as a complement to massage and other wellness practices.

Can Reiki replace medical treatment?

No. Reiki is intended to complement—not replace—professional healthcare or mental health support. Clients should continue consulting with licensed healthcare providers regarding medical concerns.
